As part of the college's Earth Day Celebration activities several speaker presentations will be held on campus. All events are FREE and open to the public!

All speakers will present in Conference Room N007.
11:00am - 12:00pm
Growing Where We Live: Ben Cohen, owner of Small House Farm, is an heirloom seed activist and founder of the MI Seed Library, a community seed sharing network. A practicing herbalist who hosts workshops throughout the Midwest teaching about the benefits of locally grown and wild harvested plants, Ben will share his expertise about extreme weather and the importance of growing where we live. Ben's writings have been published by Slow Food Cincinnati, The Essential Herbal Magazine and Seed Broadcast Journal.
Grow It, Pick, Share It, Eat It: Ben Cohen will be kicking off the opening of the new Delta College Seed Library! Learn how you can access the library, the benefits of community seed sharing, and local adaptation of vegetable varieties. Free seed packets given to each attendee!

Faculty Panel on Extreme Weather: A panel discussion on the causes and effects of climate change. The topics of "Winter the New Normal" and "Heavy Precipitation and Flooding" and its local implications will be discussed.
Pizza and snacks will be served throughout the presentations.
3:00pm - 4:00pm
From Red Tides to Amnesic Shellfish Poisoning: Exploring the Chemical Diversity of Marine Toxins: Presented by The Midland Section of the American Chemical Society, Dr. Richard Rediske, Grand Valley State University will be live via video conference. We will explore the diversity of marine toxins which range from complex polyethers and polypeptides to simple organic acids and the organisms that produce them. Impacts of climate change and anthropogenic activity also will be discussed.
All Earth Day events are sponsored by the Sustainability Office, Environmental Club and Student & Civic Engagement.
