Observe Saturn Night Planetarium Special

Friday, July 13, 2018

Saturn is making its closest approach to Earth and we would like to give the public a chance to see it through telescopes. Starting at 9pm, Planetarium Manager Mike Murray will host a presentation about the current night sky called Gateway to the Stars focusing on Saturn and how to observe it with binoculars and telescopes. If weather permits, there will be observing with telescopes and binoculars after the presentation..  The program is suitable for all ages.

At approximately 10pm (and weather permitting), the planetarium will open up its rooftop observation deck so viewers can get a close up view of the ringed world.  A variety of telescopes will be set up by planetarium staff and members of the Sunset Astronomical Society so viewers can get a variety of looks at Saturn and even other celestial objects.  If the skies are cloudy, the public can see the planetarium show at 7pm and staff will provide some extra Q&A time in the dome theater.
