Mars and Perseid Meteor Shower Observing Planetarium Special

Saturday, August 11, 2018

Join us in the Saginaw Bay Visitor Center at the Bay City State Park to watch the Perseid meteor shower and observe Mars through telescopes, weather permitting. We will start out with a presentation about the current night sky in the visitors center at 8:30pm, then move outside where we will have telescopes pointed at Mars and other objects in the night sky. With it being new moon (our moon will be below the horizon all night) and the dark skies of the state park, this makes it an excellent place and time to view the Perseid meteor shower. Without the Moon's glare, you will be able to see the smaller and fainter meteors that you wouldn't be able to see when the Moon is up.

Please note, admission to all the events is free, however, entrance to the park requires a Recreation Passport. Please visit for details.
